PRESENTING JAPAN Event

The weekend ahead sees the PRESENTING JAPAN event taking place in London – 6 days of talks and activities covering a broad range of Japanese cultural topics.

Sunday will be of most interest to J-Pop fans as HIROYUKI ITOH and DAITO MANABE will be presenting a talk on creative technology that gives the likes of Hatsune Miku her voice (a separate talk at the Japan Foundation takes place on Saturday 25th October).

Hiroyuki Itoh is, of course, best known as the CEO of Crypton Future Media – responsible for developing the vocaloid concept and bringing Hatsune Miku to life.

Meanwhile, Tokyo-based media artist, DJ and programmer Daito Manabe has worked alongside a wealth of talent, including Squarepusher, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Perfume and Capsule. Manabe was responsible for developing the Perfume Global Site in 2012 (which was awarded Honorary Mention in the Ars Electronica Prix Interactive awards). It’s also Manabe’s hand at work in the projection-mapped dresses that Perfume sported at the Cannes festival in 2013.

Manabe’s music video work has also seen him produce the ‘1mm’ pv for Perfume in 2013 and more recently the drone-filled spectacle of Capsule’s ‘Another World’.

But the PRESENTING JAPAN event also features a variety of creative artists, chefs and sporting figures presenting a feast of live art, Japanese cuisine and Sake and a whole range of other Japanese treats.

You can read full details of the Presenting Japan event on their website and the schedule runs from Saturday 24th October through to Friday 30th October at QEII Centre, Broad Sanctuary, Westminster, London SW1P 3EE.

The Hiroyuki Itoh and Daito Manabe talk takes place on Sunday 25th October 1:00pm – 4:00pm.
