ECHOES OF HOPE Marks 15th Anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake

Commemorating the 2011 Tragedy…

This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Great East Japan Earthquake. On this occasion, a memorial event in London is being staged titled ‘Echoes of Hope’.

Since the disaster, organiser Naomi Suzuki has continued relief efforts and cultural exchange activities based in both the UK and Japan, driven by the desire to “stay close to the affected areas through the power of music”.

Naomi Suzuki will present songs imbued with prayers for hope and peace, accompanied by the London International Concert Orchestra.
Performers include:

  • Nippon Club Women’s Choir The Green Chorus
  • Chelsea Kodomo no Hiroba
  • Universal Young Stars
  • Mieko Kanai
  • Yuriha, and others.

Through music and the arts, this event is intended to remember those affected by the earthquake, to reflect on conflicts and tragic events taking place around the world, and to share a collective prayer for peace that transcends national and cultural boundaries. More details on the artists and performers is available on the event website.

The programme will feature orchestral music and Japanese compositions, as well as a staged reading based on a work by a leading Japanese film director.

Following the performance, guests are warmly invited to a small reception, where sushi and Japanese sake will be served.

Date: Friday, 6 March 2026
Time: 7.00 pm
Venue: St James’s Piccadilly, London

This event is kindly supported by the Embassy of Japan in the United Kingdom and the Japan–UK Parliamentary Group.
