UK-based J-Pop record label launches with MAISON BOOK GIRL

Idol Pop will have a home in the UK with the news that new record label Read The Air have signed Maison book girl to their roster.

Read The Air Records is a collaboration between UK independent label Alcopop! Records and Japanese independent label Vinyl Junkie. With a growing appetite for Japanese music from the UK audience, the aim for the new imprint is to help share some of the best artists emerging from the Japanese scene.

Their first release on the label will feature Maison book girl with the single ‘Karma’. Formed in 2014 by former BiS member Megumi Koshouji, Maison Book Girl have put out 2 albums and several singles back in their native Japan. The rest of the outfit’s line-up features Aoi Yagawa, Yui Inoue and Rin Wada with producer Kenta Sakurai coordinating their music output.

Maison book girl pull in influences that include Scandinavian dreampop to Japanese classical music, modern ambient minimalist, chiptune and video game soundtracks. In 2017 they released their major debut album image and saw the year out with the release of their single ‘cotoeri’ and a show at the 2,500 capacity Zepp Divercity in Tokyo.

‘Karma – UK Version’ will be featured on the label’s first ever pressing, available now via all good digital retailers and released on limited edition blue 7″ vinyl in May with a soon-to-be-revealed double A-side.
