This weekend sees the return of ANIME ATTACKS – Gateshead Leisure Centre’s Japanese culture and manga festival bringing together music, art and crafts, fashion, anime, food, films, games and competitions.
Once again, J-Pop Go will be on hand to provide a generous helping of performers and J-Pop for Saturday. Our all-star line-up includes:
Beckii (Beckii Cruel) hardly needs an introduction, being one of the UK’s foremost performers. She enjoys Cosplay, Fashion, Makeup, Japanese Culture, and Music. She grew successful in Japan following the upload of her J-Pop dance videos at the age of 14.
In 2011, her song ‘You Can’t Kiss Me’ had reached Number 1 in the Music Week Upfront Club Chart, and number 15 in the Commercial Club Chart. Beckii has also collaborated with Gaijin Rock band Area 11, featuring on their single ‘Shi No Barado’.
Beckii began managing Oishii!Project in 2012 leading to the release of their EP ‘Gametime’ the same year.
Her latest focus is on Fashion, and she continues to upload videos twice a week to YouTube. She has recently launched her own brand, bcky couture, and has plenty more projects up her sleeves for the coming months.
She started cosplaying in 2009, taking part in in Cosplay events such as the German Cosplay Championship and the European Cosplay Gathering, and has since made appearances as a performer and guest in the UK at events such as Hyper Japan, MCM Expo and London Anime Con and has also appeared in publications such as Neo Magazine.
Earlier this year, Himezawa traveled to Japan and appeared at the Moshi Moshi Nippon Festival as a guest model and performer as a result of her successfully funded Kickstarter “Himezawa: Japan Debut”.
Kelsey Ellison is a professional performer from the UK who also uploads videos to YouTube. Her videos include a variety of subjects such as Japanese and Korean pop covers, English covers, vlogs, reviews and tutorials. Earlier this year she also released her debut single titled ‘Pom Pom’ which has since racked up over 150,000 YouTube views.
After uploading only her eighth video to youtube, Japanese TV show Hanamaru Market featured her dance video ‘Luka Luka Night Fever’ on their show. Her videos have also been shown on ZIP TV. Her Kyary Pamyu Pamyu cover videos have also been featured on the Japanese TV show Space Shower TV. In 2011 she began to perform live at Conventions around the UK and hasn’t stopped since!
For Anime Attacks, Kelsey promises a Halloween Special performance. There’s also a chance to get a signed polaroid taken with Kelsey too.
The event will also feature select sets of J-Pop, K-Pop, Anisong and Vocaloid tunes from DJ genkiboi. The J-Pop Go team will also be taking part in quizzes and panels over the course of Saturday. Join us for some Japanese Pop Culture Fun!
