A screen is being set up to enable fans to watch Miku in action with the added bonus of green (of course) glowsticks to wave around during the performance. Each performance will run for around 30 minutes, with 100 people able to watch at a time.
There will also be other Vocaloid-themed talks, events and activities throughout Hyper Japan. The Miku element of the show has been brought about largely due to a collaboration with the grass-roots Vocaloid outfit Mirai no Neiro (Sound of the Future). This volunteer group aim to spread the word about Vocaloids globally and have pulled off successful performances in the US, Germany, Taiwan, Denmark, Switzerland, Mexico and Chile.
Hatsune Miku has already been in the news this week following a high profile appearance on David Letterman’s show last night. The performance, which was designed to promote Miku’s upcoming US concerts, featured Miku performing ‘Sharing The World’ – a song composed by BIGHEAD which utilises a new in-development English build of Miku to deliver an upbeat tune in which the green-haired Vocaloid star sings “I can see this future is right now”.
Meanwhile, Square Enix game creator Tetsuya Nomura, who is best known for his work on character design in games such as Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts, recently revealed his take on Hatsune Miku in New York.
The design, which shows a realistic take on Miku, is part of a Miku-themed exhibition which ties into the Miku Expo which will see Miku performing in concert in New York and also Los Angeles this month.
UK fans can be content with the Miku performances taking place at the Hyper Japan Christmas Market this November. Perhaps this will finally pave the way for a large scale Miku UK concert in the future.
HYPER JAPAN CHRISTMAS MARKET takes place at Olympia, London between 14th and 16th November.
